OVERVIEW: Founded in 1982, The Obesity Society (TOS) represents more than 2,400 basic and clinical scientists, and health care provider members in obesity treatment and prevention. The Society's vision is to be the leader in understanding, preventing, and treating obesity and in improving the lives of those affected.
The Obesity Society seeks an Executive Vice President with 6-10 years of demonstrated management experience to lead this international professional society. The candidate will have excellent association management skills, particularly in financial management and budgeting, and an ability to work in a collaborative manner with a cross-disciplinary membership. Critical skills include fundraising, including grants, sponsorships, staff development and management, membership recruitment and retention, advocacy, and meeting management. The successful candidate will be a team player with excellent people skills, place a high value on integrity and accountability. This individual will be strategic, adaptable, and analytic with strong volunteer leadership and communication skills.
A Bachelors degree is required. Preference may be given to candidates who hold a certified association executive (CAE) credential.
The Obesity Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a $3.1 million annual operating budget, which is derived primarily from membership dues, an annual scientific meeting, and industry sponsorships and contributions. The Society has reserves of approximately $1.4 million. The Society employs a staff of 11, who serve at the Society's headquarters, conveniently located in Silver Spring, Maryland near a Metro station. CURRENT MANAGEMENT:The Society is managed currently under an interim management contract with Transition Management Consulting, Inc. The Interim EVP is contractually prohibited from being a candidate for the permanent position.
SALARY: Salary is commensurate with an association of this size and scope. Local applicants are preferred since relocation expenses are not budgeted for this position.
