Maryland Nonprofits Selects Darryl Jones, Sr. as Exec. Replacing Interim CEO Kenworthy

The Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations (Maryland Nonprofits) announced that Darryl A. Jones, Sr. will join the organization as its new chief executive officer. Jones formerly served as executive director of Communities in Schools of the Nation’s Capital.

“I am excited to move to Maryland Nonprofits, the acknowledged leader in the field of nonprofit capacity-building in Maryland,” Jones said. “I have been most fortunate to work with a diverse set of organizations - large and small, as well as local and national nonprofits. I look forward to working throughout the state of Maryland to enhance the strengths of our members and the efficiency and effectiveness of the nonprofit sector. Working together, we will build on the many successes of our past, while creating a new and more collaborative vision for the challenges we face in the future.”

“The need for Maryland Nonprofits to continue to provide its rich array of critical services, day in and day out, across Maryland is even more essential than ever,” says Maryland Nonprofits’ Board President Theresa Cameron. “The board and staff are confident that with Darryl Jones’s leadership and vision, this strong state-wide institution will continue to grow and be successful for years to come.”

Prior to Jones’s tenure with CIS of the Nation’s Capital, he held leadership roles with the National Crime Prevention Council, The Village Foundation, and the National Law Enforcement Integrity Institute. Jones began his professional life as a police officer with the Prince George’s County Police Department, rising to posts including president of the local police union and the Maryland State Fraternal Order of Police.

Jones was born in Washington, DC, attending public schools and Howard University. In addition, he attended the Kennedy School of Government Mid-Career Studies in Management at Harvard University, and is a graduate of both The Asset-Based Community Development Institute at Northwestern University and The Fundraising School of The Center on Philanthropy. Jones is one of only 500 Kellogg National Leadership Fellows in the U.S. completing their prestigious three-year program. He has received many national honors and awards and is also a graduate and former board member of Leadership Washington.

Jones succeeds Ann Kenworthy, CAE who served as Interim CEO after the departure of former executive Peter Berns, who served for 16 years and recently became executive director of The Arc of the United States.

Jones resides in Annapolis with his wife and three children.
